An Interview with Diane Hatz; Founder of Change Food and Creator of TEDxManhattan Mahattan

Hi All,

I had a great interview this morning with Diane Hatz, a woman who has dedicated her career to creating change within our food system, by educating and inspiring others to take action. I first met Diane in 2013, while attending the TEDxManhattan Talks, “Changing the Way We Eat.” Diane was the founder and organizer of this wonderful, annual event, from 2010 – 2015,  that brought together key experts in the food and farming movement to discuss issues with the U.S. food system. Now she has turned her attention towards the non profit organization she founded in 2013, Change Food, where she is also the Executive Director. Diane has used her expertise to develop creative projects, raise awareness, and create events that motivate individuals to make changes within our food system. She also works to find ways to help individuals and groups within the field collaborate, connect and work more effectively.  She is currently launching the Change Food Video Library at http://changefoodlibrary.org/.

Previously, Diane co-founded and directed The Glynwood Institute for Sustainable Food and Farming. She also worked at the GRACE Communications Foundation for 12 years, where she founded and directed the hugely successful, consumer education program, Sustainable Table, and was the executive producer of The Meatrix. If you haven’t seen The Meatrix movies yet, definitely check them out. They are the award-winning, animated films, that use humor and satire to make their point on the negative impacts of factory farming. While she was there, she also founded and directed the online, sustainable food directory,  the Eat Well Guide.  I am amazed at all she has accomplished!  She has appeared in many publications and media outlets, including The New York Times, NPR, Grist, More Magazine, Fine Cooking and Vegetarian Times.  She is a prolific writer and on occasion can be found hosting or on a panel about sustainable food.

Diane has an MA in Creative Writing from Antioch University, a BS in Business Administration and Marketing from the University of Delaware, and a Minor in Philosophy.  She has one published fictional book, Rock Gods of Acht.  Her claim to fame is having her fanzine of 12 years, The Relay, inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum.

If you missed the interview, you can catch it here!
