An Interview with Benzi Ronen, Founder of Farmigo

Hi All,

As I sit to write this blog post, I am looking outside and instead of seeing white, I am seeing green! I am so excited for Spring! You can feel it in the air! With the call of “Spring,” planning what you are going to plant in your garden has to become a priority. If you haven’t yet ordered your seeds, DO IT NOW! This is also a good time to order some red wiggler worms, to get your vermiculture composting operation going. I have seen the wonders of what worm castings can do for one’s garden, so I am going to add them to my repertoire!

If you are not in a position to grow your own vegetables, joining a CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) is the next best thing. You will be drawn into a community of people who appreciate local, high quality produce, and good healthy food. To find what CSA’s are near you, go to the website, LocalHarvest.org,? and type in your zip code, or try to find a CSA fair in your area, where you can learn about the different farms and programs available. Coming up, on April 12th, Long Island Community Agricultural Network is sponsoring a CSA Fair at SUNY Farmingdale, where you will be able to meet the different farmers, and find the right CSA for you.

This week, on the Progressive Radio Network, I will be interviewing Benzi Ronan,? the founder of Farmigo, an organization that is merging the concepts of a local farmers market, a coop, and a CSA. Each week, you pre-order the vegetables, cheeses and meats you want, and then pick them up on a particular day, at a central site in your neighborhood.. All of the items available are locally sourced and many of them are organic. It is a great concept, and it is making the idea of a cooperative shopping experience a reality for many more people. Please join me to learn more about this new, young company, and find out how they are changing the landscape of how and where we shop.
