100 Day Action Plan After Women’s March

trump-1976071_1280

The Associated Press reported that over 500,000 people marched in DC alone (twice the original estimate)—that is incredible! With millions more standing together throughout the country and the world, this event was a truly historic demonstration of unity!

There is still more we can do together in the days ahead to make each of our voices heard:

Engage in Women’s March 10 Actions for the first 100 Days campaign

Tell Democrats to Speak Up

Since Friday, people everywhere have witnessed the true horror of Trump’s administration as a “carefully-crafted and cruel” executive order targets the Muslim community specifically, banning refugees from around the world.us-capitol-1533368_1280

Thanks to the American Civil Liberties Union and Sally Yates, Trump’s clearly bigoted executive action has amassed more publicity leading civil rights activists, along with state and federal agents, to also loudly oppose this unlawful exercise of control.

NO to Pruitt for EPA Administrator

mountains-889131_1280Although Pruitt’s hearing is over, and the Senate wants to make a decision soon, the Union of Concerned Scientist is making it clear—they still need our help!

For years, Pruitt has tried to prevent science-based safeguards that we need to ensure and protect public health. “More than 26,000 [UCS supporters] have already stepped up to the challenge by emailing their senators, and scientists in key states have met directly with senate staff.”

But to really make an impact, the UCS needs us to make our senators’ phones ring off the hook. Call today and tell your senators to vote NO on Scott Pruitt for EPA administrator!

Stop Trump’s Cabinet of Climate Denial

world-1303628_1280“Over the past two weeks, Sierra Club supporters like you have made more than 10,000 phone calls to the U.S. Senate opposing the nomination of former Exxon CEO Rex Tillerson as Secretary of State and Oklahoma Attorney General Scott Pruitt as EPA Administrator. Make your own call now at 1-888-445-5134 and tell your senators to say no to Pruitt, Tillerson, and other nominees who would not protect our clean air, water, climate, and public lands. Already made a call? Make another—and share with your friends.” – Sierra Club

Votes on these nominees could come anytime in the next week, so call 1-888-445-5134 today.

Takin’ It to the Streets

day-1295103__480“Ominously and embarrassingly, Donald Trump takes office as the only climate-change denier among world leaders. His administration threatens to stall or reverse much of the progress we have made in combating global warming. On Saturday, April 29, just before Trump’s 100th day in office, we will take our demands to the streets of Washington, D.C. and other cities across America! We will march for our families; for our air, water, and land; for clean-energy jobs and climate justice; and for our communities and the people we love. And we will be louder and stronger than ever before.” – Sierra Club

RSVP now to Sierra Club or meet up on Feb 2. in New York and be a part of the People’s Climate Movement today!

Trump Advances Keystone XL and Dakota Access Pipelines

person-731319_1280President Trump has come out of the gate confirming that he is indeed the threat to our climate that we suspected he’d be. But these pipelines are far from being a done deal. The Keystone XL pipeline was rejected because it was determined not to be in the country’s best interest, and the environmental review of the Dakota Access Pipeline was ordered because of the threats it poses to the Standing Rock Sioux’s water supply.

Show President Trump that we will continue to fight these pipelines every step of the way. Send him a Tweet now; then send a message directly to the White House.

Submit a public comment on the Dakota Access Pipeline via the Sierra Club here or send your own using this guide from Yes! Magazine.

Shame on Safeway: Neighborhoods Need Healthy Food!

My radio show guest this week, Lauren Ornelas of the Food Empowerment Project, is working on some really empowering initiatives. Tune in Thursdays, LIVE at 10am EST on the Progressive Radio Network to hear our interview or find archived episodes here.

In the meantime, check out this petition to help communities of color, the differently-abled, and the elderly—all whom experience barriers to accessing healthy food. Did you know that when a large supermarket chain like Safeway leaves an urban community, they are able to forbid another supermarket from coming in, thus leaving a community without access to fresh, healthy food. This petition aims to take a stand and demand that companies like Safeway stop contributing to the problem. Sign here and HELP these neighborhoods get healthy!
